Former Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder Winful Cobbinah has denied stories going round that he has been sentenced to prison in Albania for four months.

News broke that the midfielder has been sentenced to four months in prison after he was found guilty for forgery of official documents to get an Albanian citizenship.

Reacting to the story, Cobbinah stated that he has no idea about any forgery of documents and as a result hasn’t been jailed or whatsoever.

“I have heard news going round in Ghana that I have been jailed for four months because I have forged some documents, I don’t know anything about it.

“I think all these are happening because of the citizenship they gave me, so if there is anything like that, I shouldn’t be involved because I can’t just wake up and go to their authorities that they should naturalize me – I came to play football,” he said.

Cobbinah linked all the news to politics in Albania and concluded that he had no influence on the decision to grant him the citizenship.

“Before they will grant you citizenship here, you would have to stay for like 5 years – I don’t know why mine was approved early – maybe I am a footballer and I’m performing very well too, I can’t do anything about it.

“Elections is approaching here, so they are doing politics with the whole thing. This thing has nothing to do with me, so those of you spreading the false news should stop.”

He further stated that “people should have their facts right before writing about issues like this because I have a family”.
