On Sunday, nothing made sense in sport. Perhaps Eliud Kipchoge finishing 8th in the London marathon should’ve been an omen of a day that would be awaiting us in sport.

That result seeped through the day. Leicester losing 3-0 to West Ham just a week after beating City 5-2, Manchester United’s 6-1 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur and the champions Liverpool humiliated 7-2 by a Villa side that escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth. What a day.

But first, let’s get into news from the Black stars. The senior national team are on a mission to restore national pride and “Bring back the love” and in days, a new tenure begins with new coach and former captain of the Black Stars CK Akunnor. But the man might not have it easy.

The Stars are set to face Mali and Qatar and already Akunnor will have to do it without three key players. Richard Ofori is set to miss the game alongside John Antwi who has had a masterful year in front of goal and left back Lumor Agbenyenu.

Ghana’s teenage sensation Kudus Mohammed was left out of the Ajax game against Groningen after a knock in the previous game. His involvement on those two friendly games is a huge doubt now as well.  Caleb Ekuban and Joseph Painstil have been handed late callups to join the Black Stars.

Now to the English Premier league. Where nothing made sense over the weekend. Favourites humiliated by supposed underdogs and cricket scorelines all through. Manchester United were handed one of their worst defeats in Premier League history since they lost by the same result to their city rivals 9 years ago. Jose Mourinho’s side were on song and after Anthony Martial’s red card, it was all Spurs. United boss, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer says he accepts blame for it.

His opposite number, Jose Mourinho who establish clear blue water between the two sides called the victory history for himself, for his players and for Spurs as a whole.

Jurgen Klopp just stood on the touchline and laughed, Everything he had planned had come crashing. When the fourth goal went in from Ollie Watkins, he took a sip of water and watched on with no answers. Nothing else to say. He had conceded defeat in the 38th minute of the game and it was illustrated right on his face.

Jack Grealish was the big man for Villa. The captain putting in 5 goal contributions on either side of halftime to give the Villans a rare bumper win. Jurgen Klopp is Liverpool manager.

The London marathon brought its shocks as well. Eliud Kipchoge, the only man to run a marathon under two hours was favourite to win but he finished eighth in extremely cold temperatures in London.

He couldn’t say much to the media after it was all done. Ethiopia’s Shura Kitata won the marathon and Kenyan Brigid Kosgei won in the women’s section as she defended her title.

In the NBA, the undermanned Miami Heat shocked the NBA world by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 115-104 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night to cut the Lakers’ series lead to 2-1. Jimmy Butler was simply breathtaking, notching a triple-double with 40 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists.

The Heat were the aggressor from the start, with Butler setting the tone early by dominating both ends of the floor. In the absence of Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic, Miami’s role players stepped up to keep themselves in the lead for most of the game.
