Black Galaxies coach Annor Walker is confident the team will respond positively in their match against Sudan on Thursday following a defeat in their opening match.
Ghana must beat Sudan on Thursday evening to be sure of making it past the first round after a shockingly poor start, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of debutants Madagascar.
Following Morocco’s withdrawal from the tournament, Ghana, Madagascar, and Sudan were each awarded three points and three goals. Madagascar leads Group C with six points, followed by Sudan and Ghana, each with three points.
If Ghana wins, they will have six points and will almost certainly advance to the quarter-finals, but defeat will mean the end of their time in Algeria.
“The first match we lost but I think we gave away all the goals we conceded. We are meeting Sudan and we have corrected our mistakes,” Walker said.
“We will go into this match with a different mentality and strategy. Expect a different game from Ghana. Definitely, they are also prepared for it. I am sure they were at the stadium to watch us play against Madagascar.
“I am sure they may have seen something about us and want to exploit it but everything will be different tomorrow,” Annor Walker added.
While admitting it will be a difficult match, deputy captain David Abagna Sandan believes they are fully focused and will come away with three points.
“It’s difficult to say specifically what our plans are but we have prepared and mentally we are focused.
“We know it will be a difficult game and we know what will happen if we don’t win. We want to win and stay in the competition. And this is enough to motivate us to go into the game and secure a win,” said Abagna.
