Central African Republic (CAR) coach Raoul Savoy has issued a warning to the Black Stars as both teams prepare to face off in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The two teams are aiming to qualify for the 2023 AFCON tournament to be held in Ivory Coast next year as Ghana lead Group E with nine points while CAR sit third with seven points behind Angola who have eight points.

The point difference means Ghana will aim to either win or draw to be sure of making it to the tournament while CAR have no option but to secure victory at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Thursday.

Savoy is however confident and has refereed Ghana to his team’s astonishing win over Nigeria two years ago in a 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

He believes that the Wild Beasts are capable of stunning the four-time African champions as they did against the Super Eagles.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game Savoy said: “Nigeria never expected us to beat them at home but we did,” he told the media during Wednesday’s press conference ahead of the game.

“You never know [what we can do]. I have respect for Ghana because they are far better than us as a football nation but football is the most lovely game in the world because every time, every day you have surprises,” he added.

CAR held a training session at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday and are eager to trade tackles with Ghana in the highly-anticipated match which kicks off at 16:00GMT.
