Ghana’s U-23 coach Ibrahim Tanko says inadequate rest for his players was the cause of their disappointing performance against Morocco on Tuesday night.

The Black Meteors suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat in their second game against the hosts in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) limiting their chances of advancing to the next stage.

Morocco went into the game with a win on Saturday against Guinea while Ghana played on Sunday defeating Congo 3-2 presenting Ghana just a day to train.

Tanko has therefore attributed the team’s defeat to fatigue citing that a day was not adequate to prepare for Morocco who had more.

He however admitted that his team showed a lot of respect which hunted them in the end.

“It’s a deserved win for Morocco, but we had one day of rest while they had two days. The players showed fatigue,” Tanko stated.

“We showed them a lot of respect, and they punished us for that,” he added.

“You saw how Congo also suffered the same fate because Guinea had an extra day too.”

Ghana must now win at all costs against Guinea in their final group game on Friday in order to proceed to the next round of the competition as they hold on to their target of claiming one of the three available spots in the AFCON to make it to next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
