Bawumia wished Team Ghana the best in Tokyo as the global showpiece officially opened.
“As the Olympic Games start in Tokyo today, I extend my best wishes to the Ghanaian athletes representing our country at the tournament.
“Ghana is solidly behind you, make us proud,” a message posted on Bawumia’s official Facebook page read.
Team Ghana participated in the poignant opening ceremony on Friday.
The 14 athletes were clad in all white with a touch of popular Kente fabric as they marched through the newly rebuilt Olympic Stadium.
Triple jumper Nadia Eke, the team’s flagbearer, looked really excited to lead Ghana’s delegation at the 68,000-seater venue, which had just the media and some 900 dignitaries present due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ghana’s athletes will feature in Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Swimming and Weightlifting.
