Thomas Partey has been ruled out of Ghana’s friendly against Nicaragua on Tuesday after leaving the team’s camp on Saturday.Â
“Thomas Partey has been granted permission to travel back to London for further assessment after picking up a suspected knee injury on Friday minutes before the International friendly against Brazil,” GFA wrote on their website.
Partey was named to the starting lineup but was forced to withdraw due to knee discomfort during warmup. He did not play in the game in Le Havre, which the Black Stars lost.
Since joining Arsenal in 2020, the 29-year-old has been plagued by injuries, suffering six different injuries. Partey recently returned to the field after missing three weeks due to a thigh injury.
Arsenal fans hope it’s nothing serious and that Partey will be available when club football resumes in early October.
He is crucial to Arsenal’s Champions League bid, and Ghana will need Partey in their midfield in November for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Black Stars deputy captain scored the important away goal that enabled Ghana to defeat Nigeria and qualify for the tournament.
The Black Stars began their preparations for the tournament in June and have played five games so far, winning one, drawing two, and losing two, including the 3-0 defeat to the five-time world champions last Friday.
The team will play Nicaragua on Tuesday. A match that the Black Stars are expected to easily win before Otto Addo names his final World Cup squad.
Ghana are in a tough group with former European champions South Korea and old foes Uruguay.
