Tema Youth won the reverse fixture at home

Tema Youth FC’s 2-0 loss at Berekum Chelsea and Great Olympics’ 1-0 loss at Bechem United saw the two Accra-based sides relegated from the Ghana Premier League.

Five clubs faced relegation ahead of the final day of the 2016/2017 season.

But wins for some of them – notably Elmina Sharks (2-0 Wa All Stars) and Liberty Professionals (2-1 Asante Kotoko) – saw them have another opportunity to battle in top-flight football in Ghana.

Bolgatanga All Stars, who were playing in the League for the first time, had been relegated ahead of Sunday’s fixtures following a string of poor results.

Great Olympics, who were one of the three sides to be promoted from Division One last season, also joined the relegation train once again after falling to an Ahmed Toure goal at the Gyeabur Park.

Tema Youth, who had been promoted into the League through a contentious decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas), could also not survive at Berekum.

Ebusua Dwarfs were the biggest beneficiaries on Sunday after a 4-1 win at Bolga All Stars lifted them into the Top 4.

Ashanti Gold SC also beat Aduana Stars 4-2 at the Len Clay Stadium courtesy goals from Hans Kwofie, who won the Golden Boot of the season.

Inter Allies also survived courtesy a goalless draw with Hearts of Oak.
