Former Swiss international Nora Hauptle has been appointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as the new head coach of the Black Queens.

The 39-year-old replaces Mercy Quarcoo Tagoe who spent nearly four years leading the team.

The Black Queens have struggled to make a name in various international competitions over the years and will be expected to see some improvement under their new coach.

The team have failed to qualify for the Women’s World Cup since 2007 and haven’t been able to impress in Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) competitions. Their recent nightmare was when they failed to beat Nigeria to qualify for the latest edition in Morocco last year.

Nora Hauptle, who is a UEFA Pro Licence certificate will be assisted by former Coach of the Girls U-15 national team, Joyce Boatey-Agyei and former Asante Kotoko player Aboagye Dacosta.

Nora was last seen on duty in Israel working as their Women’s National team head coach. She has also coached the Switzerland U19 and the female side of the German-based club SC Sand.

Her first assignment will be to lead the Black Queens to play in the WAFU Zone B Women’s Cup of Nations between March and April. She is also expected to qualify Ghana for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
