The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced that a strategic plan will be revealed in the coming days to investigate the causes behind the poor performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Ghana’s disappointing showing at the tournament included losses to Cape Verde and a 2-2 draw with Egypt and Mozambique, failing to secure a spot in the Round of 16 even as one of the four best third-placed teams.

In a statement issued on January 25, the ministry declared that there will be a collaborative effort with national team stakeholders to develop a roadmap for the revival of the national senior men’s soccer team.

“We recognise the urgent necessity to address the underlying issues and are poised to embrace a holistic approach towards rebuilding and reviving our football,” the statement noted.

Expressing shared disappointment with millions of Ghanaians and football followers, the ministry emphasised the government’s unwavering support for the national teams, including the Black Stars.

It highlighted the creation of a conducive environment, investment in team development, and the introduction of performance-based reward systems.

While acknowledging the recent poor performances and recognising fundamental structural and systemic deficiencies in the football ecosystem, the ministry maintained its commitment to fostering a football environment that aligns with the aspirations of the nation.

“We believe in and call for your support and understanding. Together, let us rebuild and restore the future of football in Ghana,” concluded the ministry’s statement.
