Sellas Tetteh rejected as Sierra Leone coach by gov't

Ghanaian coach Sellas Tetteh’s appointment as Sierra Leone head coach has been rejected by the government of the West African country. He was on Tuesday named the coach of the Leone Stars with a statement by the country’s football association saying, “After a thorough interview process by the Sierra Leone FA (SLFA,) head coach Recruitment Committee and based on scores earned by the various candidates, the executive committee of the Football Association wishes to announce to the general public and the football family the appointment of Mr. Sellas Tetteh Teivi as the head coach of the national senior team Leone Stars.” However, soon after the announcement of the 2009 U-20 World Cup-winning coach, the Sierra Leone sports ministry has rejected the decision citing reasons that the process to select Tetteh as head coach was “incomplete” and that it “did not come to a logical conclusion”. Part of the statement released on Tuesday read, “The report of the Ministry’s representatives also observed that representative from the Sierra Leone Football Association on the interview panel came with a premeditated mind of appointing the said coach”. Tetteh, who won the race against other shortlisted coaches including Goran Stevanovic, Peter Butler, Tahseen Jabbary and Keister who won the 2019 Sierra Leone Premier League with East End Lions, will now hope these controversies will not derail his ambition to get back into top-level coaching.
