Salis Abdul Samed has been included in Ghana’s final squad for the World Cup, whilst Mubarak Wakaso has been placed on standby, 3Sports sources can confirm.

Samed has started all 14 games this season for Lens, who are currently second in Ligue 1.

The midfielder was part of Ghana’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations squad but later pulled out of the tournament due to injury.

It is believed that the player and Otto Addo have settled their differences after the midfielder failed to honour the call-ups for the Kirin Cup months ago.

Wakaso as things stand is on the standby list for the World Cup. 3Sports understands Otto Addo is reluctant to include Wakaso because he has other midfielders he can rely on, but conversations are still ongoing ahead of the final announcement.

The midfielder joined Belgian side Eupen in September and has featured in seven league games.

He was a part of Ghana’s team for the Kirin Cup and featured in both games against Japan and Chile.

At 32, Wakaso will be part of Ghana’s experienced players if he’s included in the final squad having already featured in the 2014 World Cup.

Ghana’s World Cup campaign in 2022 will begin on November 24 against Portugal. The Black Stars’ second group game is against South Korea on November 28, followed by a match against Uruguay on December 2.

The Black Stars hope to reach the semi-finals.
