Ghana striker Felix Afena-Gyan is set to join Serie A newcomers AS Roma on a permanent basis.

According to Italian media, the transfer is just a step away. The 19-year-old will travel to Cremona on Saturday for medicals with the Grigiorossi.

Roma’s total earnings from the transfer will be around €10 million, including €4 million in add-ons. On the other hand, Afena-Gyan’s departure should open the door for Italy striker Andrea Belotti to join Roma.

Afena-Gyan last month signed a long-term deal with Roma, but the Italian capital club have decided to sell him.

“I am really pleased to have signed this contract: every since I arrived at this club my aim was to reach the first team and since I did that my life has changed a lot,” Afena-Gyan said in July.

“Now I need to just concentrate on continuing to improve, I am motived to start the new season in the best possible way.”

Having joined the club’s youth setup in the early part of 2021, Felix quickly progressed from the Under-18s to the Primavera side and then, at the start of the 2021-22 campaign, he was called up to Jose Mourinho’s first team squad.

After making his professional debut against Cagliari in October 2021, a few weeks later he opened his account for the club with two late goals in an unforgettable substitute appearance against Genoa.

He has since made several appearances for Roma, helping them win the Europa Conference League last season.

Afena-Gyan made his Ghana debut in March and helped the Black Stars qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
