Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has confessed that he had hoped for the Red Devils to acquire Thomas Partey before he signed with Arsenal in 2020.

Speaking on the Vibe with FIVE podcast, Ferdinand stated that he highly regards the Ghanaian midfielder as a top player.

He referenced previous episodes on the show where he expressed his desire for Partey to join Manchester United before Arsenal secured his signature. “I rate Partey…I’ve done clips that before he went to Arsenal, I was saying Man United should buy Partey,” Ferdinand stated.

During the podcast discussion, the Partey-Casemiro debate was raised, and Ferdinand believes that it is unfair to compare the two players. “I genuinely believe he is a top player, but if you keep mentioning Casemiro, I don’t think it will be fair on him,” he added.

The Ghana midfielder has been in outstanding form for Arsenal in the 2022/2023 season, playing a crucial role in their current position as league leaders in the English Premier League.

In fact, the Gunners have yet to lose a match this season with Partey on the field, while they have lost three games in total. His excellent performances have undoubtedly been a major contributing factor to Arsenal’s success this season.
