Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has reiterated that Jordan Ayew has his support and he continues to count on him despite the Crystal Palace’s striker poor form in front of goal.

Jordan has gone more than 30 games without scoring at Crystal Palace while his last goal for the Black Stars came in March, a penalty against Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Rajevac was asked if Ayew would start on Tuesday when Ghana play Zimbabwe again in the FIFA World Cup qualifier, this time in Harare.

Ayew wasn’t convincing in the first leg and was substituted in the first leg, which the Black Stars won 3-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium. He may have assisted Mohammed Kudus’ opening goal but, generally, his lack of confidence and self-belief was pretty evident as he was unable to trouble the Zimbabwean defence.

Rajevac said on Monday, “I never reveal the starting line up the day before the match because this is not the way I do my work but the goal scorers and attackers often come to crisis and in these circumstances, they are trying to overcome the problem and start scoring to make their performance better.

“We are here and we talk to him. He feels the support he gets from everybody. Whether he starts or comes as a substitute later in the game, we count on all of our players. As I always say, it is important to start the match in an appropriate way and to finish it in the right way.”

Jordan has scored 17 goals in 65 appearances since his Black Stars debut in 2010 during Milovan Rajevac’s first stint.

Ghana versus Zimbabwe will kick off at 1 pm local time.
