Asante Kotoko are on the verge of reappointing Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum as their head coach, exactly one year after his surprising resignation amid misunderstandings with the management.
Notably, on Saturday, Ogum was seen at Kotoko’s Adako Jachie facility, engaging in positive discussions with former Kotoko captain and former Ghana coach, Kwesi Appiah. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has tasked Appiah with leading the club in the absence of a board and management, and one of his primary responsibilities is to find a suitable coach and oversee the recruitment process.

Otumfuo made this decision on Friday, and Appiah has swiftly taken action, indicating that he may have already identified the right candidate to lead the club as the head coach.

Even before the meeting, Ogum had heavily been linked to return to the club after departing in 2022 and a meeting today with Kwesi Appiah at the Adako Jachie suggests he is all but set to take over as head coach.
Having previously coached West Africa Football Club (WAFA), Ogum was appointed ahead of the 2021/22 season and succeeded in ending the team’s eight-year trophy drought by winning the Ghana Premier League.
He was replaced by Burkinabe trainer Seydou Zerbo who only got dismissed in the middle of the season following poor outcomes in all competitions including an early knockout from the CAF Champions League and FA Cup.

Zerbo’s firing saw Abdul Gazale assume the coaching role on an interim basis where he led the team to a fourth-place finish behind Medeama SC, Aduana Stars and Bechem United.
The club are also expected to announce a new board and management team in the coming days before the season begins.
