AshantiGold star forward Yaw Annor has responded to reports linking him with a transfer to Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko.

Annor was one of the best players in the recently concluded Ghana Premier League season and is being pursued by a number of clubs, including Kotoko, according to reports.

With 22 goals, the 24-year-old ended the season as the top scorer. He won the golden boot ahead of Kotoko’s Franck Mbella Etouga and tied Hearts of Oak legend Ishmael Addo’s record for most goals in a single league season.

Annor is said to be on the Porcupine Warriors’ wishlist as they look to strengthen their squad for next season’s CAF Champions League.

Asked to address reports Annor said on TV3’s GPL Express “Kotoko are a big club in Ghana and it will depend on the figure they propose. If what they propose is good for us, we will sit down and think about it. If it’s not good, we will also think about it. I can’t say for now if I will want to be a Kotoko player or not. I am still under contract at Ashanti Gold.”

“I know that Kotoko will play in Africa (CAF Champions League) and playing in Africa is a big deal for a player. It gives the player a bigger profile. I have played in Africa before. Going to Africa won’t be the main reason for joining Kotoko.”

Annor is under contract with AshantiGold until June 2023, but he may be forced to leave due to the club’s demotion to Division Two League over match-fixing.

The Miners have filed an appeal, hoping to keep their top-flight status.

“We have just finished playing this season’s league. With what the GFA has decided [demotion], our leaders are still working on it. We will prepare ourselves for next season and if a bid comes, we will consider and see the way forward,” said Annor.

“I’m not sure yet if I will stay or leave. Since the decision hasn’t been upheld yet, I will say we are still in the Ghana Premier League.”

Annor began his career at Bechem United, where he won the 2016 MTN FA Cup. He left the club for Spain but struggled there, forcing him to return to Bechem permanently in 2020.

In 2021, Ashgold acquired him for the Hunters.
