The Black Stars fan who invaded the Cape Coast Stadium pitch on Thursday, November 14 in Ghana’s 2-0 win over South Africa has been fined GH¢2,400. Failure to pay the fine will land Awal Sulemana in prison for three months. The sentence was pronounced on Thursday by a Cape Coast Circuit Court. He was charged on two counts of offensive disturbance and resisting arrest. Awal had run onto the pitch in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Group C qualifier ostensibly to have a photo opportunity with icon Thomas Teye Partey. He got that subsequently. Opinions were divided as to whether to arraign him before the courts. Black Stars players including captain Andre Dede Ayew asked for leniency for the former sprinter for Apam Senior High School. https://twitter.com/AyewAndre/status/1195479889354334208?s=20 He was granted bail after spending two nights in police cells.
