Boxer Patrick Allotey has been slapped with a six-month suspension for assaulting a football fan during Hearts of Oak’s 1-2 loss to Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League. Video of the assault went viral as the fan suffered a severe bruise from the boxer’s punches. Allotey, who is the WBO Africa Super welterweight champion, would have none of the Asante Kotoko fan’s taunts and punched him a couple of times in the face. https://twitter.com/tv3_ghana/status/1222102989604839425?s=20 The incident was reported at the Ministries Police Station as the boxer was subsequently arrested. On Wednesday, February 5, the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) heard the case. Allotey was found liable on charges of misconduct and his professional license suspended for six months. “The suspension takes effect from today the 6th day of February 2020,” a letter signed by the President of GBA, Peter Zwennes, said. “The GBA will notify the sanctioning bodies about this development and you are to comply accordingly.” Allotey has since apologized for the incident and is reported to have pleaded for leniency during the disciplinary proceedings.
