Andre Ayew has praised Otto Addo for qualifying Ghana for the 2022 World Cup and suggested that the former Ghana international stay on as Black Stars coach.

Addo was named interim manager weeks after Milovan Rajevac was fired following Ghana’s dismal performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Addo, with the help of assistant coaches Didi Dramani, George Boateng, and technical advisor Chris Hughton, defeated Nigeria in the playoffs, securing the Black Stars’ participation in Qatar.

Ayew was suspended for the tie, but he visited the team in training and attended the first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

“We all saw that he did a great job, great is small, he did a very wonderful job. I had been with the team for three or four days before the game. I congratulate him so much. He changed a lot of little things on the pitch trying to find the solutions and it worked and we need to keep working”, Ayew said in an interview with 3Sports.

He added: “Proud Ghanaian to have qualified the nation to the world cup because it has been a difficult time for us with the changes of coaches and hopefully we could get some stability and work towards the goal with some style.”

Ghana President Akufo-Addo has backed Addo to continue leading the team, but the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to decide.

Addo may have to resign from his position as a Dortmund trainer scout in order to join the Black Stars on a permanent basis. Before appointing Addo, GFA requested authorization from Dortmund.

Ghana has been drawn in Group H at the World Cup, along with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
