African Games: Ghana’s Arm Wrestlers lead the way with 41 medals

Ghana has made a remarkable performance at the 2023 African Games, surpassing the total number of medals won in the previous two editions combined.

With a haul of 46 medals, Ghana has already exceeded the 32 medals won in Rabat 2019 and Brazzaville 2015.

The majority of Ghana’s medals have come from arm wrestling, with the team securing an impressive 41 medals in the sport. Edward Asamoah, Abeka Blessed and Grace Mintah each won two gold medals, while Godwin Sackey, Abeka Blessed, and Mabel Yeboah won one gold medal each.

In addition to the success in arm wrestling, Ghana has also won medals in swimming and weightlifting. Abeiku Jackson claimed silver and bronze medals in the men’s 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly events, respectively. Weightlifter Winnifred Ntumi won gold, silver, and another silver medal in the women’s 49kg category.

The Ghanaian football teams are also performing well, with both the men’s and women’s U-20 teams expected to win medals. The athletics team is also confident of achieving success, with the Ghana Athletics Federation chief Bawa Fuseini promising 13 gold medals from the sport.

With the games still ongoing, Ghana’s performance has already been deemed a success, and the team is likely to continue its strong showing in the remaining events
