Oil City wins maiden edition of Connect Masqueraders Soccer Fiesta

Oil City MASQUERADERS emerged as the winners of the maiden edition of the Connect Masqueraders Soccer Fiesta which was held on Saturday at the Sekondi Methodist Park.

Hundreds of fans turned up to support their masquerade group in the tournament which was first of its kind in the region.

Oil City MASQUERADERS who are based in Sekondi went unbeaten to win the tournament and conceded only a goal in the process.

They capped their performance with a 2-1 win over Supreme in the grand with a goal in each half.

Media General Western Region Manager Ransford Nana Osei Asare was impressed with the attendance and has promised more of event.

“I’m very excited about what happened today. If you look at the planning stage all through today that we have come to the end of the event, I’m really excited, all that we planned for has come to pass.

“This is just the beginning of the good things that we intend to do with the masquerade groups,” he said.

He ended by saying the event will be an annual event in Sekondi.

Solomon Osae Cudjoe won double individual awards – the goal king and the player of the tournament.

All participating clubs went home with products from sponsors and partners including Betway and MIKSI.

The winners, Oil City MASQUERADERS waked home with a cash price of Ghc2,000 with a trophy and the runners up, Supreme Masqueraders also pocketed Ghc1,000.

Yet another event, and Western Regions number one radio station, Connect 97.1 FM pulled a big one.
