The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has noted that the investments government is making in 2023 going into 2024 will facilitate the hosting of the 2023 African Games.

Ghana is set to host the 13th edition of the pan-Africa games from Friday, March 8 to Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The quadrennial multi-sport competition was postponed earlier this year as it was originally scheduled to be held from Friday, August 4 to Saturday, August 19, 2023.

The decision was taken due to delays in preparations and economic pressures occasioned by the COVID-19 global pandemic in 2020.

But addressing Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, Mr Ofori-Atta insisted that investments across the various sectors of the Ghanaian economy will facilitate a successful hosting of the Games.

“The occasion will spotlight Ghana as a leading sporting venue in Africa and highlight our organisational capital for sporting events in the future,” he stated while delivering the 2024 budget in Parliament.

The 13th African Games will be hosted for the first time in three cities – Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast.
