Ghanaian football fans who haven’t been vaccinated will not be allowed entry into various stadia for games as the local league commences on Friday.
This was announced by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku at the 27th Ordinary Congress on Thursday to usher in the 2021/22 season.
“We are engaging the government to ensure we have more fans accessing our games, but one of the key requirements will be the need for all of us to ensure we are vaccinated to be able to access football.
So, what that means is that all our players and staff will be vaccinated – indeed that process has started, and all football fans who will want to access our games live at the various stadia, must prove they have received vaccination,” Okraku said.
The requirement is for spectators attending games age 12 or older. For those below the 12 would be mandated to show proof of a negative rapid test from at least 48 hours before a match day.
Vaccination cards will be checked at the gates.
The first match of the new league season will be played on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium with newly-promoted Accra Lions FC hosting Elmina Sharks.
