Spain youth international of Ghanaian descent Nico Williams has revealed that he idolised Asamoah Gyan growing up and tried learning some of his moves.

Gyan had a successful career with the Black Stars, scoring 51 goals and leading Ghana to three World Cups in a row from 2006 to 2014.

The former Sunderland striker has not played for the national team since the 2019 AFCON but Nico admired his style of play from his younger days.

“When I was six years old, I loved Asamoah Gyan. He is the best striker [I have seen]. He scored a lot of goals,” he said in an exclusive interview with 3Sports.

“I watched a lot of his matches and try to transmit his style to my football. I practised to be like him and try to score goals like him,” he added.

Nico Williams’ brother IƱaki Williams recently switched nationality and is now available for the Black Stars. Nico is yet to do so.

Both were born in Spain to Ghanaian parents.
