Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has confirmed the availability of Mohammed Kudus for Ghana at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) revealing that he is set to join the team on Tuesday despite suffering a minor injury.

The West Ham United attacker who picked a knock during their game against Arsenal has touched down in Ghana and is given some time to recover according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

While the exact time for the 23-year-old to join the team in Kumasi was yet to be known, Chris Hughton revealed that the player was set to join the team on Tuesday.

The experienced gaffer was speaking after Ghana’s pre-tournament game against Namibia at the Baba Yara Stadium on Monday night.

“We were in touch with [Kudus] and his club, he will join us [on Tuesday]”

Hughton reassured fans that the 23-year-old’s inclusion is on track, providing a boost to the Black Stars’ squad as they prepare for the AFCON tournament.

Meanwhile, the scoreless draw against Namibia in the pre-tournament game has generated dissatisfaction among Ghanaian fans. As Ghana heads into the AFCON, expectations are high, and the team is on a mission to end its 42-year trophy drought. Their last AFCON triumph was in 1982 when Libya hosted the competition.

The Black Stars are gearing up for their first game against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2023, followed by clashes with record holders Egypt and Mozambique in Group B.

With the potential inclusion of Mohammed Kudus and an eye on the ultimate prize, Ghana aims to make a strong impact in the upcoming AFCON campaign.
