Medeama coach Augustine Evans Adotey has expressed belief in his team’s capability of competing with the likes of Al Ahly and Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Champions League.

The experienced manager led the Tarkwa-based side to their first Ghana Premier League title with an impressive 3-0 win over Tamale City on Sunday.

The triumph makes them the automatic representatives of Ghana at the next CAF Champions League and Adotey is confident of making an impact with the team.

Despite the underperformance of Ghanaian clubs in the competition, the coach is confident his side has what it takes to match giants like the champions and runners-up of the competition among other heavyweights.

“Why not? If someone has done it, it is possible I can also do that. Even if it was achieved by an experienced coach, as time goes on, I also gain experience along the line so it’s possible. We can also go far in the competition.

“There are no fears. We can emulate what Ahly and the rest have done in the competition. We are not scared by any of these clubs,” he told Asempa FM.

“Coaching is about all about the game plan and commitment of your players. So we are not thinking about whether it is Al Ahly or whichever club. We just believe that we can do it.”

Medeama will be having a third bite of African interclub competitions having represented Ghana twice at the CAF Confederations Cup following their two FA Cup triumphs in 2013 and 2015.
