Manchester City are still in the running for the treble after Ilkay Gundogan scored twice to secure victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

City’s captain, Gundogan, once again proved to be the hero of the big game, securing his place in history by scoring the quickest goal ever in an FA Cup final.

His stunning volley found the back of the net after only 12 seconds, surpassing Louis Saha’s strike for Everton after 25 seconds against Chelsea in 2009.

Manchester United managed to equalise after 33 minutes when the video assistant referee determined that Jack Grealish had handled the ball. Bruno Fernandes calmly converted the penalty, sending Stefan Ortega the wrong way.

However, it was Gundogan, as he so often does, who made the decisive contribution. Six minutes into the second half, he volleyed Kevin de Bruyne’s free-kick past United’s goalkeeper David de Gea, securing City their seventh FA Cup title.

Having already clinched the Premier League title, City now head into the upcoming Champions League final against Inter Milan in Istanbul next Saturday with the opportunity to replicate United’s achievement in 1999.
