Club President of Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns, Patrice Motsepe has declared his intentions to contest for the upcoming CAF elections in March 2021.

Regarded as one of the wealthiest people on the African continent, Motsepe will be competing with incumbent Ahmad Ahmad and Jacques Anouma who have both made their intentions to contest for the top position known.

The South African has been officially backed by his home federation SAFA as well as Nigeria, Botswana and Sierra Leone.

“Caf must improve its global standing. He is the most appropriate person we could offer for the leadership of CAF. We do not want any compromise on governance or ethics in football” said South Africa FA president Danny Jordaan.

Motsepe qualifies to contest the position since he fulfils the requirements of having been involved in football for the past five years, with the South African having led Pretoria-based Sundowns since 2004, and has received the backing of his own federation.
