Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has joined AS Roma on a season-long loan deal, both clubs have confirmed.

After returning to Chelsea from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021, the Belgian forward has fallen out of favor, which caused him to spend the previous season on loan at Inter Milan before returning to Chelsea at the conclusion of the campaign.

Chelsea has chosen to transfer him on yet another loan to the Serie A, where he will again reconnect with manager Jose Mourinho, despite their obvious need for a prominent striker.

“AS Roma is delighted to confirm the loan signing of Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.
“Lukaku, 30, has joined the Giallorossi on a temporary basis until 30 June 2024,” Roma said on their official website.

The former Manchester United forward would be spending his fourth season in Italy and has shown ecstasy upon the successful completion of the move.

“The welcome I’ve received from this club and its fans has excited me and given me even more motivation to give my all for my new team. As an opponent, I felt the atmosphere of the Stadio Olimpico, and felt the warmth of the Romanisti,” said Lukaku for the first time as a Roma player.

“It’s nice to know I’m a part of it today. I recently got the opportunity to speak with the owners, and I was impressed by their ambition. Now we must work, be humble, and grow game by game. For my part, I can’t wait to be available to my teammates both on and off the pitch.”

Lukaku has played in three different leagues stretching from the Belgium top flight where he featured for Anderlecht before his big move to Chelsea in the Premier League. He also spent some part of his career on loan to West Bromwich Albion and Everton before joining the Toffees on a permanent deal.

He further bounced between Manchester United and Inter Milan and eventually returned to Chelsea where he still has an active contract running until the summer of June 2026.
