Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has expressed his interest in becoming the next head coach of the Black Stars, citing his extensive experience and understanding of what it takes to succeed at the international level.

Kingston, who is currently Ghana U-17 assistant coach, believes that his background in coaching and player development makes him well-suited for the job.

“Of course, I will accept and do it easy. I know the level at which I am now,” Kingston said in an interview with Graphic Sports.

Kingston, who made 42 appearances for the Black Stars and scored six goals, stressed that he is ready for the challenge and is confident in his ability to lead the team to success.

His desire to coach the Black Stars comes after the sacking of coach Chris Hughton.

Hughton presided over a disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, where the team failed to secure a victory, leading to their elimination from the group stage for the second consecutive time.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is currently searching for a new coach, with several candidates, including Maxwell Konadu, Michael Osei, former Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath, and former West Ham coach Nikola Jurcevic, having formally declared their interest.

The GFA hopes to appoint a coach within the next three weeks, and it remains to be seen who will ultimately get the job to lead the four-time African champions.
