Asante Kotoko moved up to second on the table after securing a Boxing Day victory against their head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s former club WAFA in Kumasi.

Richmond Lamptey scored the decisive goal in the 58th minute to give Kotoko a deserved 1-0 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Kotoko were by far the better side, and after hitting the post in the early stages, they were awarded a penalty.

The decision was, however, rightly reversed as Kotoko ended the first half without a goal despite their dominance.

But it was a different story in the second as their dominance got rewarded. Lamptey put the ball in the net from close range after his first shot was blocked.

The victory takes them level on points with leaders King Faisal who suffered defeat away from home against Bechem United.

Aduana Stars dropped to third as their unbeaten run ended in Tarkwa after losing 1-0 to Medeama.

Ahmed Toure scored in the 88th minute to break Aduana hearts. The Ogya lads needed just a point to go top.

The defeat means Aduana are third with 20 points, the same as King Faisal and Asante Kotoko, but the Porcupine Warriors have an outstanding game.

Great Olympics without their top scorer Maxwell Abbey, who is Doha with the Black Stars preparing for 2021 Afcon, saw off Eleven Wonders 2-0 to stay in the top half.

Bibiani Gold Stars defeated 10-man Karela United 3-1 in the first top-flight meeting between the two western clubs.

Berekum Chelsea extended their unbeaten run to three games with a 1-0 win over AshantiGold who are now winless in three.
