Ghana striker Jordan Ayew has been confirmed available for the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff tie against Nigeria.

Initially, there were concerns that Ayew would miss the tie due to coronavirus infection. He has tested negative, though, and is expected to join the team in Kumasi.

“Jordan Ayew has tested negative for Covid and will join the team later this week in Kumasi ahead of the Nigeria game,” GFA communications director Henry Asante Twum revealed on Tuesday.

Ayew missed Crystal Palace’s 4-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Everton this past weekend due to the positive test.

Ayew, who made his Black Stars debut in 2010, has 18 goals in 73 appearances for the team.

The Black Stars arrived in Kumasi on Tuesday afternoon to continue their preparations for the first leg, which will take place on Friday, March 2022 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Prior to the match, the team is expected to have three training sessions in the Ashanti Regional capital.

The second leg will be played on Tuesday, March 29 in Abuja.

The winner of the tie will qualify for the World Cup finals in Qatar later this year.
