Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil has been ruled out in the team’s upcoming match in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Central African Republic (CAR) due to an injury.

Despite initially joining the team in Accra, the 25-year-old has been excused to return to his club KRC Genk to nurse an injury which was picked up in their game against Anderlecht over the weekend.

The former Tema Youth player is therefore the only absentee from the Black Stars camp currently with Jordan Ayew and Richard Ofori joining the team in time to hold their second training session on Tuesday.

Paintsil has been a key figure for the Black Stars recently with his impressive cameo leading to a crucial point for Ghana when they played Angola in Luanda in the ongoing  AFCON qualifiers.

Coach Chris Hughton is now anticipated to rely on other wingers in the team including Ernest Nuamah, Ransford Yeboah Konigsdorffer and Osman Bukari among others for the highly-anticipated game.

Ghana have targeted either a win or a draw in a bid to make it to the 2023 AFCON which comes off next year in Ivory Coast.

The match will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday at 4 p.m. local time.
