Ghana forward Inaki Williams scored his second consecutive goal as Athletic Bilbao secured a 2-1 win against Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium on Saturday.

Athletic Bilbao struggled to create meaningful chances from the beginning despite seeing most of the ball. However, Williams who had earlier scored during midweek in the team’s exit in the Copa del Rey semifinals made it count once more as he pounced on a Dani Garcia pass to place the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper in the 22nnd minute.

Athletic Bilbao controlled most part of the game seeking another goal but Espanyol’s goalkeeper was up to the task as he denied the visitors a few times before half-time.

However, Espanyol’s second-half plan to get back into the game and eventually end their losing streak did not materialise as Inaki’s brother Nico Williams, climbed off the bench to finish what his elder sibling had started.

The Spain international found space on the edge of the box and smashed home a beautiful goal in the 75th minute, just six minutes after being on the pitch.

Serge Darder came through with a consolation in the 90th minute as Espanyol extended their losing streak to five.

The victory has lifted Athletic Bilbao to seventh place with 40 points and in a great position to seek European football.
