Coach Chris Hughton had high praise for Inaki Williams as the striker netted his first goal for the Black Stars on Friday, securing a 1-0 victory against Madagascar in Kumasi as Ghana began their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign on a positive note at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Speaking about Williams, Hughton said, “Iñaki is a good professional. If I tell him to play in central midfield or right back, he will play there. But he is a number nine. That is his main strength.”

Williams’ decisive goal not only marked a personal milestone for the striker but also contributed to a crucial win for Ghana.

Looking ahead to the next game against Comoros in Moroni, Hughton emphasised the importance of the win, saying, “The importance of the win is massive. We would have loved to have done it more comfortably in the first half, but that’s football. All you look is to get some momentum from this. We all hope that the momentum from the second half will be taken into Comoros.”

Black Stars aim to top the group, which also includes Mali, Chad, and the Central African Republic, to secure qualification for the World Cup hosted by USA, Mexico, and Canada.
