Former AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has rejoined the club as a senior adviser to the ownership and management, six months after retiring from professional football.

This marks the 42-year-old Swedish footballer’s third stint with the Rossoneri.

Ibrahimovic enjoyed an impressive 24-year playing career, representing top clubs such as Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Paris St-Germain, and Manchester United. He won league titles in four different countries and holds the distinction of being Sweden’s all-time leading scorer.

RedBird, an American investment firm that acquired AC Milan for £1 billion in August 2022, has appointed Ibrahimovic as an operating partner across its sports, media, and entertainment investment portfolio, which includes the Italian Serie A club.

In a statement, Ibrahimovic expressed his delight at returning to AC Milan, saying, “My love for the Rossoneri will never die, and the opportunity to be a part of its future in a meaningful way is something I could only have dreamed of.”

He added, “This is not a decision that I take lightly – it is one which is very important and personal to me and my family. I’ve thought long and hard about the first steps in my post-playing career, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to start that journey as a member of RedBird and AC Milan.”

Ibrahimovic previously played for AC Milan on loan in 2010 and returned for a second spell in early 2020, helping the team win the Scudetto in 2011 and 2021-22. He described his latest appointment as a “homecoming” with the club where he ended his playing career and is now beginning his next chapter.
