Manchester City effortlessly secured a spot in the Champions League knockout stage with two matches to spare after a dominant performance against Young Boys.

Erling Haaland led the charge, extending his remarkable Champions League goal tally to 39 goals in just 34 games.

Haaland, undeterred by a recent ankle injury, converted a 23rd-minute penalty after a foul on Matheus Nunes, before unleashing a second goal from outside the area early in the second half. Sandro Lauper was shown a red card for a second booking, adding to Young Boys’ misery.

Phil Foden also contributed to the victory, scoring City’s second goal. The result sends City into the knockout phase for an impressive 11th consecutive season, and also means they have set a new record of 18 matches unbeaten in Europe for an English club.

The win also extended their run of home victories in all competitions in 2023 to 23 games, one short of the English record, set by Sunderland across 1891 and 1892.
