Norwegian striker Erling Haaland has broken the record for most goals scored in a single Premier League season.

The 22-year-old scored his 35th league goal of the campaign in Manchester City’s 3-0 win against West Ham on Wednesday, surpassing the previous record of 34 goals jointly held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole.

This achievement comes after Haaland had already set a new record for most goals in a 38-game season, surpassing the 32 goals scored by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah during the 2017-18 season.

With five more games left in the current season, Haaland has an opportunity to add to his impressive tally.

It is worth noting that both Shearer and Cole achieved their record in seasons where there were 22 teams in the top flight, giving them an additional four matches to play.

In contrast, Haaland has achieved his record in just 31 games in his debut season in English football.

Haaland’s impressive performance throughout the season has been a key factor in Manchester City’s success, as they currently sit at the top of the Premier League table.
