Ghana midfielder Gladson Awako has left top-flight side Great Olympics, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

This comes after reports that Olympics’ city rivals Hearts of Oak have included Awako in their CAF Champions League squad.

Head coach Samuel Boadu last week revealed on Kumasi-based Silver FM that Awako “will be part of Hearts of Oak squad next season.”

The double-winning tactician said it was upon his recommendation that the club went in for Awako.

“He is very good with enormous qualities which will help us in our next season’s campaign,” he added.

However, the club haven’t made an official announcement.

Awako returned to Ghana in 2019 to join Great Olympics after spending six years abroad. He played in DR Congo where he won numerous trophies including the CAF Champions League in 2015 with TP Mazembe and represented Phoenix Rising in the United States.

The 31-year-old since his return to Ghana has been one of the best midfielders. His six goals and seven assists contributed to Great Olympics’ impressive sixth position finish in the recently-ended Ghana Premier League.

He made his debut for the Black Stars in March this year against Sao Tome and Principe in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
