A winning start for Samuel Boadu, a vengeful result for Hearts of Oak against WAFA. The embarrassing defeat to the Sogakope-based side a couple of seasons ago is one of the darkest days for the club in the Ghana Premier League in recent times.

In the final game of the first round, Hearts searched for the perfect opportunity to revenge that, and Boadu brought them just that.

It may have been aided by the early sending off to Ibrahim Abukari leaving WAFA reduced to 10 men.

The numerical difference was WAFA’s ultimate downfall. Hearts pegged them back and did not afford the time and space to play their game.

Hearts scored four through Patrick Razak, Isaac Mensah Ovouka Hokemba, and Michelle Sarpong.

The result will be a thing of pride for the Phobians but the club’s fans will take this in even more and expect more of the same in the second round under a coach with a great reputation of being hard to beat.

Kotoko were hard to beat too. Until they met Elmina Sharks. Under new coach Nii Odartey Lamptey, Sharks were on higher energy levels.

Ball recoveries, passing range, surges forward, and taking the one golden opportunity were some of the many positive changes Odartey Lamptey had effected. It was a great sight.

Kotoko may have been undone by off-pitch issues concerning a new head coach, and need to get back to winning ways as soon as they can.

The defeat leaves them eighth in the standings and five points clear of leaders Karela United.

It is results like this against Aduana Stars that have propelled Karela United to the top of the table.

They have churned out really good performances and found wins against formidable opposition, so consistently they have occupied the top spot for 12 of the 17 matchdays.

Thanks to Diawisie Taylor’s 12 goals this season, Karela are enjoying a purple patch. Taylor is also the top scorer of the league this campaign and doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

He will get more in the second half if he keep this up. Others can only watch, hope to replicate or just try to usurp this season’s golden boy.

In some other results, Legon Cities were brought back down to earth following a recent positive run of good results with a 1-0 loss to Eleven Wonders.

Dreams FC suffered the same fate against Great Olympics.

There was another 1-0 win for King Faisal against Liberty Professionals while Inter Allies and Ashanti Gold shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
