Asante Kotoko registered their first win in four games as they beat Legon Cities 2-1 thanks to a brace by Frank Mbella.
The Cameroonian forward scored the winner in the 79th minute after his opener was cancelled out by Ahmed Rahman who profited from goalkeeper Razak Abalora’s error.
Mbella has now scored three goals in two games, having netted his debut in midweek when Kotoko drew 1-1 with Real Tamale United.
A morale-boosting win for Kotoko who seemed to have lost their way after four consecutive victories. They collected two points from their last three and it cost them the top spot.
The win means Kotoko are three points adrift of the first position, however, they have an outstanding game.
Meanwhile, Kotoko former coach Maxwell Konadu is reportedly on the verge of being sacked by Legon Cities. Sunday’s defeat extended their poor run as they have recorded just one win in nine games.
Legon Cities are in the relegation zone with seven points from a possible 27.
Aduana Stars are the new leaders following a 3-2 win over Berekum Chelsea in Dormaa.
A brace by Emmanuel Gyamfi and Sam Adams’ fine finish gave Aduana a comfortable lead but Chelsea set up a nervy ending with two late goals.
In Tamale, David Abagna scored his eighth goal of the season – now top scorer – as Real Tamale United secured an impressive 2-0 victory over Elmina Sharks to move up to fifth.
The Northern giants made the most of their first-half dominance as they scored both goals. Abagna scored after forward Ronald Frimpong had opened the scoring.
Midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang scored a 96th-minute winner as WAFA beat Medeama in Sogakope. The Academy Boys fought till the end to earn the victory which has seen them move out of the drop zone.
Karela United scored a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw against Bechem United while AshantiGold and Great Olympics drew goalless in Obuasi.
Eleven Wonders secured a 2-1 comeback win over Bibiani Gold Stars in Techiman.
