Hearts of Oak will head into Sunday’s Super Clash with Asante Kotoko with high hopes after beating Legon Cities at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians knew only victory will guarantee their return to the top after Kotoko’s win over Karela United on Wednesday and they produced a masterful performance to secure a 2-1 result.

Hearts made a nervy start, allowing Legon Cities to dominate and create a couple of opportunities with Victorien Adebayor, who was very lively, hitting the crossbar with a superb strike.

But with the help of their fans, Samuel Boadu’s side settled and began to dictate proceedings. That led to them scoring their first goal through Kwadwo Obeng Jr in the 29th minute.

His 8th goal of the season made possible by Daniel Afriyie Barnieh who dribbled past two players before teeing up his strike partner to tap home.

Nine minutes later, Frederick Ansah Botchway, who replace rested Emmanuel Nettey, hit a first time pile driver past goalkeeper for second goal.

Adebayor halved the deficit with a free kick from at the edge of the box before halftime.

The scoreline stayed the same till fulltime, sparking wild celebrations from Hearts of Oak fans.

The result means Sunday’s meeting could determine title destination as both teams are tied on 56 points.

Earlier on Wednesday, Liberty Professionals suffered a 5-1 battering at the hands of AshantiGold to leave them still in the relegation zone.

Ebusua Dwarfs condemned relegation-bound Inter Allies to a 1-0 defeat and Medeama drew 1-1 with King Faisal in the morning.
