Black Satellites head coach Karim Zito has said Ghanaians didn’t believe they were going to win the AFCON U-20 tournament in Mauritania.

Ghana on Saturday won the tournament for the first time since 2009 after having a slow start to the competition which saw them qualifying as one of the third best teams.

According to Zito, Ghanaians doubted his team to achieve the feat but with discipline and unity they managed to win Ghana’s fourth trophy at the U-20 AFCON.

“It’s about mental toughness and the discipline in me and the boys. The way I am with the boys, you might not even know I’m the coach – we work together, we joke together, we do everything together, the oneness, the unity of the team.

“People initially didn’t trust the team but we trust ourselves, I told them, ‘trust yourself, don’t listen to people outside, tell yourself I can do it and you will do it’. At long last, we were able to win,” he said in an exclusive interview with 3Sports.

Ghana defeated Uganda 2-0 in the finals. All two goals were scored by captain Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.
