Ghana winger Christian Atsu has moved to Saudi Arabia where he will play for top-flight club Al Raed after signing a two-year contract.

The deal is believed to be a lucrative one for Atsu who becomes the second Ghanaian this transfer window to move to Saudi Arabia.

Afriyie Acquah, 29, took the bold decision to sign for Al-Banti in June, and in less than a month, his Black Stars colleague has joined him in Saudi Pro League.

The move to Asian country ends his long association with European football, dating back to 2011 when he arrived in Portugal to sign for Porto.

Atsu went on to sign for Chelsea where he was unlucky as he made no first team appearance.

The Blues loaned him on five occasions including Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga before Newcastle United captured him permanently.

Newcastle’s transfer was a reward for his impressive contribution to the club’s Premier League return in 2017. Four years later, he parted ways with Tyneside club after having been reduced to training with the U-23 team as the club did not include him in their squad for the league last season.

At Al Raed, Atsu will work with former Sevilla coach Pablo Machin as well as share the same dressing room with Guinean great Ishmael Banguoura and former Zamalek star Shikalaba.
