Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Mensah has been suspended indefinitely.

The popular sports administrator was suspended by the Board of the GRFU, with second-in-command Mr James Nunoo named appointed as Acting Chairman and CEO.

The Board decided to suspend the former Asante Kotoko CEO following a meeting held via zoom on Tuesday.

The GRFU said in a statement that a Special General Meeting has been called for 8 June 2021 when a new Board will be elected and appointed.

The suspension follows a petition sent to GRFU by the Ghana Rugby Union Players Association (GRUPA) in April demanding the removal of Herbert Mensah from office.

GRUPA accused him of unilateralism, disproportionate remuneration structure, imposition of non-existent rugby laws, conflict of interest, among others.

GRFU assured stakeholders including players, clubs, supporters, sponsors and governing bodies that the affairs of Ghana Rugby will continue without disruption in the best interest of Ghana, Ghana Rugby and Rugby in general.

Mr Mensah was appointed in June 2014.
