The Ghana Premier League could resume this weekend after the Human Rights Court dismissed AshantiGold’s court injunction application on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

Judge Barbara Tetteh Charway in her ruling indicated that on the balance of hardship the Ghana Football Association will suffer more than AshantiGold.

The GFA then asked the court for GHS 300,000 in damages for the league’s 21-day suspension.

The Miners’ lawyer initially stated that they would leave the matter to the court, but later stated that they were willing to pay GHS 20,000, which was granted by the judge.

The injunction against the league has been lifted, but the substantive case between Ashgold and GFA Executives is still ongoing, with the Miners seeking a fair hearing.

Ashgold felt they got a raw deal in their match-fixing case.

The Ghana Football Association Disciplinary Committee demoted them, along with Inter Allies, to the Division Two League after finding both clubs guilty of match0-fixing after the Miners defeated Inter Allies 7-0 in the final week of the 2020/21 season.

Ashgold President Dr Kwaku Frimpong and Chief Executive Emmanuel Frimpong, as well as some players, were handed long-term bans from football.

However, the players were successful in obtaining a stay of execution from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, allowing them to register with new clubs for this season.

Before the suspension, the league had reached matchday four, with Berekum Chelsea leading the table, Asante Kotoko ninth, and Hearts of Oak 14th.
