Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has hailed the official launch of the National Football Philosophy, known as Ghana Football DNA, as a critically important building block for the country’s football.

The launch took place on Wednesday, July 12, in Accra and Okraku emphasised the significance of the occasion.

In his speech, Okraku expressed the historical importance of the moment, stating, “Today marks a momentous epoch in the history of Ghana Football.” He highlighted the comprehensive nature of the publication, which identifies Ghana’s football characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, values, and history, providing a clear picture of the nation’s football identity.

Referring to the field of genetics, Okraku explained the concept behind the name “Ghana’s Football DNA,” stating, “An organism’s DNA refers to its unique genetic codes and specific set of instructions through which it functions. It is that by which a thing is specifically recognized.”

Okraku further acknowledged the different terms used to describe Ghana’s brand of football over the years, such as “multi-system” and “Agoro,” and drew parallels with how other nation-states have built identities for their football. He stressed the need to strengthen the fundamentals of Ghanaian football to compete on the global stage.

The Football DNA is a long-term plan aimed at fostering growth and excellence in Ghanaian football. Okraku expressed confidence that it would form the bedrock of football development in the country. He credited the hard work of Technical Director Bernard Lippert and the team of industry professionals involved in its creation.

According to the FA President, the publication is essential reading for everyone involved in Ghanaian football at all levels. “It will synchronize our development program right from the grassroots to the heights of our Football pyramid and ensure that when Ghanaian teams are playing anywhere, they will be distinctly recognizable,” he said.

“While Football continues to evolve and develop and change over the years in the face of technology, we need to have our distinctive style of play while employing these new and advanced traits that fit into our game.”

“The implementation phase of this project is vital.

“I remain confident that members of the technical sector, i.e. coaches, technical directors, sports teachers, physical trainers and many others within this category, can transform our Football, as they remain essential in the change we yearn to see in our Football from this day onwards.”

“Witnessing the fruits of today’s launch may require time—days, weeks, months, or even years. However, with patience, the results will reflect the sacrifice and collective commitment we dedicate to this new pathway.”

“It is my humble pleasure to invite you all into a deeper exploration of Ghana’s Football Philosophy as we continue laying the foundation for Ghana’s resurgence as a Football nation,” he concluded.
