Black Stars’ abysmal showing in the just-ended 2021 Africa Cup of Nations has led to Ghana slipping to 61st on the latest FIFA global rankings for February.

Black Stars had a tournament to forget as they were eliminated at the group stage after losing to Morocco and debutants Comoros and drawing 1-1 with Gabon.

The four-time African champions finished bottom of their group with a single point. The team’s worst-ever Afcon campaign.

As a result, Black Stars have dropped nine places from their previous position prior to the tournament. They were ranked 52nd by the world football governing body.

Also, Black Stars are no longer among the best 10 teams on the African continent. They have dropped to 11th.

Ghana are not the only team in Africa have suffered a massive slip. Algeria, who came into the tournament as reigning champions, have dropped from 29th to 42nd.

The North Africans, just like Ghana, were poor. Algeria scored one goal and claimed one point, losing to Equatorial Guinea – their first defeat in 35 games – and Ivory Coast in the group stage. The Desert Foxes, however, find themselves among the best 10 in Africa.

New champions Senegal have moved up to 18th and remain top of Africa. Runners-up Egypt are back in the top five while Burkina Faso have moved up to 10th after a good tournament as they finished fourth.

Third-placed Cameroon are in the top 10 along with Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia, Mali and Ivory Coast.

Comoros have moved up by one place. They were 132nd when they beat Ghana, while the Gambia have made a huge jump from 150th to 125th. The West African nation, the lowest-ranked country at the Afcon, made it to the quarter-finals.
