Ghana secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Namibia in the initial leg of their final Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying round held in Accra on Friday.

In a stellar display, the Black Queens swiftly established a three-goal lead, with Doris Boaduwaa showcasing clinical finishing by netting twice, while Portia Boakye also found the target. However, a defensive miscommunication resulted in an own goal, granting Namibia a consolation score.

This outcome provides a significant advantage for the Black Queens as they approach the second leg with confidence, eyeing qualification for the tournament in Morocco.

The upcoming match is scheduled for December 5 at Lucas Moripe Stadium, and coach Nora Hauptle aims to maintain her impressive unbeaten record. Ghana demonstrated superiority in the first leg, deserving a more substantial lead at the Accra Sports Stadium, where entry was free for fans.

Doris Boaduwaa’s precision in front of goal was evident, contributing significantly to Ghana’s success. Despite the own goal blunder in defence, the Black Queens remain in a favourable position, having missed out on qualification in the last edition.
